Review on: Summer At The Lake By Erica James

About The Author (as seen in the book)

With an insatiable appetite for other people’s business, Erica James will readily strike up conversation with strangers in the hope of unearthing a useful Gem for her writing. She finds it the best way to write authentic characters for her novels, although her two grown-up sons claim they will never recover from a childhood spent in a perpetual state of embarrassment at their mother’s compulsion.

Erica is the author of many bestselling novels, including Gardens of Delight, which won the Romantic Novel of the Year Award. She now divides her time between Cheshire and Lake Como in Italy, where she now strikes up conversation with unsuspecting Italians.

Lake Como beautiful, enchanting, romantic…

For Floriana, it is the place where the love of her life is getting married to another woman. And she’s been invited to the wedding.

For Esme, it is where, over sixty years ago, she fell in love for the first time. So often she’s wondered what happened to the man who stole her heart and changed the course of her life.

Adam is in danger of burying himself entirely in his work, after his girlfriend left him. Could a trip to Lake Como be the distraction he needs?

Now it’s time for each of them to understand that the past is not only another country, it can also cast haunting shadows over everyone’s lives…

My Review

Before I start my review I must say that from the books I have previously read by Erica James… I just adore her work; its her gentle and enchanting writing style that’s gets me every time. Just Amazing!!!!

Now back to the review. As you can see the cover is so enchanting with its vast mountain seen with trees and a house by the lake. You could almost be looking out of a window at this beautiful view. ( as you know dear readers I do love a pretty cover! I just can’t help it!!)

Summer At The Lake was a true delight to read; it’s got friendships, getting over past old love’s, finding new love, memory’s and at the beginning Erica touches on loneliness.

Set in Oxford, England and Lake Como, Italy. I admire the way Erica describes everything, I feel like I’ve walked the streets of Oxford and been to Lake Como truly amazing!

There are three main characters in this beautiful story. Floriana; who is a tour guide in Oxford, Esme an elderly lady who lives alone with her cat Euridice and has no relatives, and then there’s Adam who’s a property developer and letting agent. Floriana is in an accident and Esme and Adam are present. As Floriana is taken away I an ambulance Esma is worried about her and pursued Adam to take her to the hospital. This is where the three charicters start their friendship. They get to know each other over time; Adam sharing his split up and Floriana  shairing her heart ach with the impending invite to her ex’s wedding in Italy with Esma and Esma shairing  her life and travel adventures with them.

Esme notices a spark between Adam and Floriana ( without them realising it themselves) she is one cunning character but in a good way. She was my favourite in this book for sure. She comes up with an idea to tie Floriana going to her ex’s wedding accompanied by Adam and she could go and revisit her past and find her first love. With gentle persuasion from Esma they agree to accompany her. It turn’s out to be a very interesting trip!

I enjoyed the way the story develops and the pace of the book. The way after each chapter I found myself asking thing’s like ” Will Esme find her first love?”, “Does Floriana still love her ex?” or ” Will Adam and Floriana realise they like each other?” this ment I had this book glued to my hand at any given moment till I finished.

Summer At The Lake is a wonderfully written story which has truly touched my heart and is defiantly one I would recommend to you guy’s!
