As Francesca’s life changes beyond all recognition, she is surprised to discover it’s not as terrifying as she thought it would be. In fact, it might even be the best thing that could have happened to her- a fact that doesn’t go unnoticed by Mark.

And then Francesca decides to throw a party and that’s when the fun really starts…

My Review

I just love the front cover of this book, a perfect summer seen with the fluffy white clouds in the pale blue sky to the delict pink and purple flowers. A lady looks like she is walking through the garden in a long flowie  purple dress, she looks content and relaxed. A very inviting cover wouldn’t you say? As always the cover helped make my decision to pick the book up and read the blurb!

The lovely Patricia Scanlan is a new author to me and what a writer she is!!!! Francesca’s Party is a story about a lady who think’s her life is ok; she’s a good wife and home maker and she brought up two son’s; Owen who still live’s at home and Jonathan who works and live’s in America. But on the day her life turned upside down she took her husband to the airport where she thought he was going on a business trip to Brussels. Only he isn’t going there at all. He leaves his mobile in the car and Francesca try’s to find him before he leaves only to see him in an embrace with another woman, and not going to Brussels at all.

Francesca’s in total shock at what she has just seen and makes her way home. When her husband Mark has realised he hasn’t got his phone he use’s his lover Nikki’s phone to ring Francesca but she doesn’t answer understandably. She get’s home in such a state and decides to ring her sister and best friend Millie; who thought Mark was the bee’s knee’s. Millie was as shocked as her sister. Francesca realise where he is taking his lover and decides enough is enough. She travels to the Hotel that they are at and confronts Mark in font of Nikki and Tells him there marriage is over and that his cloths are in the suitcases she had brought with her. At this point in the story I really wanted to high five Francesca for doing this! you go girl friend!!!!

Francesca soon take’s control of her life by firstly telling their son’s Owen and Jonathan. They were both very shocked and angry at their father for doing this to their family in particular Owen who refuses to ever talk to his father again. However they are both really supportive of their mother and whatever choses she chooses to make next. I completely loved Francesca’s character and to see her grow and flush in her new life, having a proper job for the first time in years, selling the family home and moving to a cottage, dealing with the ex husband and his lover, possibly having a love interest of her own and finally putting the past behind her.

At the end of the story Francesca decides to throw a party in her new home and to thank all her friends and family for there help and support through this last year. She cook’s all the food herself and has arranged for Mark to come without anyone knowing because she wants Owen to talk to his father again and for them to put the past in the past. To say the party is uneventful would be a massive contradiction, it was very entertaining to read!!!!

I just adore Patricia writing style so much, she includes the characters thought possesses through out the story and I really felt this helped me to understand each character’s point of view and liked that very much about this author! It’s very fair to say I really though this book was fab and such a complete joy to read, thank you lovely Patricia for writing a lovely book.
