The cover of this psychological thriller is very striking. It’s a very dark looking book with a person waits in the car while some lady walks in the street. I think the white and yellow writing of the title and the author’s name is very effective making the letters stand out.
This is the first time I’ve come across Liz’s work, so I was eager to get to this book. It’s also been awhile since I’ve read something really gritty! I know within me reading the first page that Liz had me hooked, now that is one clever lady right there.
This story is so cleverly put together the characters are all individual and the plot is truly amazing with all the twists and turns. Amazing!!!!! Each chapter has the name of the character you will be reading about next; which give’s the reader the chance to see what each one is thinking and going through at that time; giving you the reader a greater understanding of the story. This made me soak up every words in order to find out what happens next. To say this book was a pager turner wouldn’t give Lying in Wait justice!
In the first chapter of Lying in Wait we meet Lydia and I felt her strong and cunning demeanor straight away. She and her husband have a son Laurence, but in order for Lydia to make her life whole she wanted another child; able to get pregnant but unable to stay that way. She sends her husband out to find a suitable candidate offering her money to have sex with him and then carry the baby and after the birth give the baby to them, only things don’t quite go as planned. I could also tell that all her husband wants to do is make her happy which Lydia knows and plays on.
When they had chosen her and done the deed. Lydia and her husband Andrew were unsure the girl was really pregnant and thinking maybe they were being ripped off. Andrew arranges a meet up with the girl Annie, with Lydia watching close by. Andrew beings to get frustrated with Annie and starts to strangle her, Lydia seen this running to the car and just manages to stop him before he kills her. With her out cold Lydia then looks at her and gives her the finishing blow to her to finish her off. When they get home their son is home and he has his own little secret of his own on this very night!
We also meet Annie’s family and their turmoil of their daughter going missing without a word. Her sister Karen refuses to believe that her sister would just go off like that without telling them however bad her situation. Karen carry’s on with her life never giving up hope and decides to do some digging of her own and that is when she comes across Laurence! Now he also has a sneaky suspension himself about that night.
The story unfolds in a great pace which kept the momentum going and those pages keep turning, now that’s what I like in a book in this genre. Liz’s writing I can only describe only as utterly brilliant.
As I said earlier that it has been a while since I have a physiological thriller and I can say now that I will be defiantly be picking them up more, as I had forgotten how much I enjoy them. Thank you Liz Nugent for reignited that in me!!!!
This book is epic!!! and I highly recommend this book if this is you genre. It’s defiantly a page turner in my eye’s, I couldn’t see the twists coming which made for a intriguing read. You will certainly not be disappointed if you pick this book up!
So Marie’s Book Boutique gives Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent a BIG FAT FIVE sparkly stars!!!!!!!!!!!!
